Edgewood Campus Schoool

Construction

Building on our Values Edgewood Campus School has embarked on Phase 1A of the renovation and construction plan. Building Systems General Corp. has been selected the contractor and Eppstein Uhen Architects have done the planning and design

Phase 1A includes:

Renovation of the pre-kindergarten and kindergarten classrooms with a new entryway, restrooms that are handicapped accessible with a large wash basin, cubby area, kitchen area with sink, refrigerator and cabinetry, window treatments, painting, carpeting, ceiling and energy efficient lighting.

New girls and boys restrooms, which are handicapped accessible, at the west end of the building. The boy’s room will have waterless urinals.

New fenced retention pond south of the playground to prevent runoff into Lake Wingra.

Construction of three new classrooms at the west end of the building with a basement below two of the rooms. A new hallway outside these classrooms will feature individual student lockers, classroom storage cabinets, a water fountain and an exit to the playground with a ramped walkway. The basement will house a new energy efficient heating system for the addition and the future phases; provide space for classroom storage, maintenance and a new upgraded electrical service.

The porch at the west end of the building is being preserved and will become an enclosed, heated vestibule with bench seating. This new ground-level exit will be used as a morning entrance and exit to and from the Edgedome. Custom windows in the 16 openings currently in the stone walls and the stone pillar with the engraved crosses is being incorporated into the design.

Miscellaneous improvements include hot water throughout the school, redesigned basketball court with adjusted rims for younger players, stubbing and wiring for future security system and swipe-card entry, and built in bicycle racks. New landscaping and tree planting will be done at the end of Phase 2.

All exterior stone that has been removed has been saved for future use in the next phases. Cabinetry that was removed has been donated to Habitat for Humanity of Dane county or will be used for storage in the basement. The school or the contractor has recycled all of the wiring, lighting, ballasts and metals.
